Claude API adds customer profiles and restriction-status tracking

New user profiles let API providers identify which end customer each request belongs to. Added status fields let teams see which customers Anthropic has restricted or banned.

What changed

Anthropic launched user profiles on October 20 so platforms, gateways and API resellers can associate requests with individual customers. On October 21, it added enforcement_status and enforcement_actions fields, plus a filter for profiles with open restrictions or bans. Organization webhooks also launched in beta to report when restrictions or bans begin or end.

Why it may matter for your work

Customer-level enforcement could reduce the risk of one customer's activity disrupting an entire platform. Status tracking and notifications may help support teams identify affected accounts more quickly.

What it can actually do

Associate API requests with end customers, inspect enforcement status, filter restricted or banned profiles and receive enforcement-change notifications through beta webhooks.

Limits to check

Customer-level enforcement is described as something that can apply, not a guarantee. Organization webhooks require the webhooks-2026-10-07 beta header and access requested through an Anthropic account team.

“If you operate a platform or gateway, or resell API access, a safety enforcement action can then apply to one end customer instead of your whole organization.”From the linked source page
