Gemini API automatically redirects older Flash model requests
Google has deprecated Gemini 3.7 Flash and 3.5 Flash and removed them from selection in Google AI Studio. API requests now automatically go to Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.6 Flash, respectively.

What changed
Requests to `gemini-3.7-flash` are automatically routed to `gemini-3.8-flash`. Requests to `gemini-3.5-flash` are automatically routed to `gemini-3.6-flash`. Google instructs developers to update their model strings and review the replacement models' guides.
Why it may matter for your work
Existing applications could now be using a different model without a code change. Teams may want to test their workflows and update configuration so the selected model is explicit.
What it can actually do
Automatically route API requests for the two deprecated Flash models to their replacements.
Limits to check
Gemini 3.7 Flash and 3.5 Flash are no longer available to select in Google AI Studio.
